Ugnayan sa Legazpi: Art History and the Evolution of the Sacred

"Ugnayan sa Legazpi: Art History and the Evolution of the Sacred is established on the belief that community thrives in the cradle of creativity and unique storytelling. By bringing together Bicolano artists, students, and community members at the foot of Mayon Volcano, this significant discourse is part of the three-day initiative transforming art from a passive experience into an active site of engagement. Through keynote talks like Manny Garibay’s exploration of Art History and the Sacred, the project seeks to democratize cultural learning and trace how shared values have evolved into the modern Bicolano identity. Held during National Arts Month, the program is designed to spark a lasting synergy through hands-on workshops and collaborative art-making rooted in shared stories, learning, and care. Our goal is to use art as a mirror for reflection and a bridge for dialogue, turning a series of temporary gatherings into a permanent community of hope and resilience. By facilitating these "meaningful engagements," we ensure that Ugnayan sa Legazpi creates spaces for healing and connection that will outlive the event itself. The art talk will commence at the 2nd Floor, Bicol University College of Science - Building 2, capturing the natural ambiance that highlights the sense of community and unity among members of the community - especially BUenos.
